Did you know that the inside of a sea turtle's mouth, throat, and esophagus have flexible, cone shaped, backward-pointing spikes called papillae that assist in swallowing and digesting jellyfish.
The danger is that plastic bags floating in the water can also look like jellyfish... confusing the hungry sea turtles. And unfortunately, if a turtle swallows a bag, it will get trapped in their spikey papillae, clogging their intestines.
Fishing tackle, fishing lines, and nets can also cause great harm to sea turtles and all marine life. That's why it's SUPER important to keep beaches and bodies of water CLEAN.
When leaving a coastal area, let's ensure that no trash is left behind!
Together, we can share our EARTH responsibly!
